Trap question asked by a sneering media, what we normal people call a "gotcha" question.   Uh,  let's all ask Obama who the President of Namibia is and then ask him to spell it without his teleprompter.

    Mark,

The interview in question was with the right-leaning Christian Broadcasting Network (CBN).  They were not up to ask any "gotcha" questions of Herman Kain.

    Here is the full exchange:

BRODY: Are you ready for the ‘gotcha’ questions that are coming from the media and others on foreign policy? Like, who’s the president of Uzbekistan?

CAIN: I’m ready for the ‘gotcha’ questions and they’re already starting to come. And when they ask me who is the president of Ubeki-beki-beki-beki-stan-stanI’m going to say, you know, I don’t know. Do you know?

And then I’m going to say how’s that going to create one job?

The only real "gotcha" question that Herman Cain got was about Libya, a question that anyone who watched any news could have answered.

Or how about the immortal "I am a leader, not a reader"?  How was he trapped there?

Herman Cain is not qualified to be President.  He has no credentials and no relevant experience.  During the foreign policy debate looked like an idiot next to Gingrich, Huntsman, and Romney.

Certainly, the media should not have ran the whole story with women without vetting them more.  But that's just a nature of things.  News business is a business and sex sells.  Remember during the Clinton scandal how numerous camera crews were chasing Monica all over?  How they were showing the clip of Clinton hugging Monica over and over again?  Was there any need to discuss what was done with the cigar?

I mostly agree up to this point..  Been a long time since we agreed on anything.

I liked certain aspects of Cain.  But he is not presidential material, even by the diluted standards of the last 2 presidents.

This is where I disagree.  It is NOT the nature of things equally for everyone.  Until a conviction or at least admissable evidence is produced, the likelihood that Cain was sexually inappropriate is no greater than the likelihood that Romney was sexually inappropriate.  This is what mkgilstrap is so adamant about over in the other topic as well, and I agree with him.  The likelihood that Gingrich committed 84 ethics violations, until admissable evidence is presented (or to be more categorical, until convictions are obtained), is no greater than the likelihood that any other individual committed 84 ethics violations.  It is completely random who chooses to attack whom. And if not random, whatever criteria are being used to determine who is to be attacked and accused, they are quiet possibly (in an unknown number of cases) more indicative of the ethics of those doing the accusing, than the person actually being accused.

It is frustrating to see people taken down like this.  It is more frustrating to see no consequences for those making accusations, but rather be rewarded both situationally (by taking down someone who is in their way or to simply take revenge for personal reasons), and financially by writing books, selling interviews, gaining fame, etc.  Whatever the motivation, they cannot lose.  And the accused, cannot win.

This is an incredible injustice in our society.  And nothing enables it more than the view that "this is just the nature of things".

    Re: Herman Cain for President?

If you dont' want to be "taken down", don't pay off the accusers. Instead, go toe to toe with them in court. When you pay off someone to "go away", you are essentially admitting guilt and setting yourself up for future contingencies. This is rather common sense. Some crimes don't require "proof". Yeah, it's like that.

you said this is "incredible injustice" - but is is not, this society itself is incredibly unjust, so anything it does is unjust by definition.

Have you been taking "logic" classes from Anton? Big Smile

You say "anything it does is unjust"

I said that this is unjust.

    "this" is included in "everything"

    We agree on "this".

    Lets move on :)
